Here’s what’s up in New York March 17-23:
STEAL OF THE WEEK
Here’s a somewhat random one, but bowling does sound like a fun and wholesome activity: a Groupon for Bowlero (Chelsea Piers)
TIMELY IDEAS
Did you know that Guinness is, like…healthy? A pint holds 167 calories, 14g carbs, and almost 2g protein. Don’t deprive yourself of one today; don green and a claddagh ring for none other than:
Mon., March 17 – ST. PATRICK’S DAY
• Swift Hibernian Lounge opened at 8AM (?!) (also known as…the top of the morning…!) and is serving 2-for-1 Irish Coffees until 11am.
• The Parade starts at 11am at East 44th St. and marches up 5th Ave to 79th St.
• The Factory 380 is having brunch on a Monday! From 11am-4pm, you can get your hands on a real Irish breakfast (among other things), plus a special St. Patty’s Day menu of cocktails and food items on through the late evening.
• Pete’s Tavern is, as always, a destination for a pint. They’ve got some cute decor and special cocktails, too. Their Shepherd’s Pie is genuinely great, as it actually has lamb (a lamb/beef blend) in it.
• Bartley Dunnes has Guinness galore, plus a great frozen Irish coffee and very Irish owners and bartenders, in case ya taught oderwise.
• The Dead Rabbit has extra live music today. “The musicians vary weekly, with instruments including fiddles, guitars, uilleann pipes, banjos, and bodhrans. For Monday, March 17th, we’ve a double Seisiún, from 1pm – 5pm, and 6pm – 10pm.” (Their Irish food is gonna be the best around, and they’re on my favorite app…InKind!)
• McSorley’s is old and dirty (just how I like my men!) with cheap beers (choose light or dark (dark)) and corned beef hash. Cash only, as always.
• The Salvation Army stores are doing 50% off the whole store for the holiday.
• Stop by Krispy Kreme for a limited-edition donut :)
• Head to your nearest library to read a bit of Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, Edna O’Brien, Samuel Beckett, Sally Rooney, or one of the many other historical or modern Irish authors to bless us the world with their voices.
*SHOUT OUT* to all the (fully, recently, not-just-ancestrally) Irish people in me life in New York. I am blessed to have so very many of you!
And then there’s the rest of the week:
