Today is 11/11: Veterans Day, Singles Day, “The 11/11 Portal”…
I could delve into my thoughts on any one of these topics, but the frustration/mania pendulum swinging ‘round my brain does not leave me in the best place to construct a coherent essay! (We’re all good here, just thinking about skipping out on rent, or body slamming the next person who plays Chicken with me on the sidewalk, nothing major).
TikTok says it’s a great day for manifestation, or that we should live the whole day as only our higher selves would. I’d already failed at that by 11am when I nearly broke down to a FedEx guy over a table. I won’t bore you with the details, but let’s just say it’s tough to believe that manifestation is real when spending $800 on a table is, apparently, not 🫠. (My higher self does have a dining table though, that’s for sure, so I’m working on it.)
What can I do except bury my head in the sand of The Arts, hit the gym, and go for long walks…?
Here’s What’s Up in New York November 11-17:
STEAL OF THE WEEK
There’s a new smash burger in town! Popchew of Murray Hill (don’t worry, they deliver) has a promotion going where, if you download the app and place an order, you get a YEAR of free burgers: that’s one free combo, every month, for a whole year. See you in the pickup line!
On another note, I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my skin (LOL, but really). I have been drinking a ton of water, but I otherwise chalk it up to this sunscreen. Today’s the last day of the Sephora sale, so it’s a good time to snatch some up if you’re looking for a new daily SPF.
TIMELY IDEAS
Any day of the week – ART – Gallery 503 at MoMa is really hitting right now. It’s currently set up as a “Cubist Salon,” and it’s packed to the gills with paintings, leaving you gobsmacked by a movement rather than lightly enjoying one painting at a time. Plus, you get to walk through galleries 501 and 502 to get there!
Wed., Nov. 13 – PHOTOGRAPHY – Fall Foliage in Central Park Photowalk
Wed., Nov. 13 – MUSIC – Whistling Is An Art (a concert). Can’t argue with that!
Wed., Nov. 13 – FOOD + BEV – Aperitivo Hour by Forthave Spirits at Roberta’s Penn
Thurs., Nov. 14 – CONCERT – treya lam and Kaki King via Lincoln Center Presents
Fri., Nov. 15 – COMMUNITY – Jane Street Garden Annual Gala. Ok…cute!
THIS WEEK’S HOT DATE
We are entering Hot Chocolate Season. Instagram’s @ TheCarboholic (on Substack as
) has done the work for us by trying 97 (!!!) cups of hot chocolate in New York last year. She has revisited her favorite at Rigor Hill Market and confirmed that it still hits! (Rigor Hill Market would be a great place to pick up an assortment of goods if you are looking for more than just hot chocolate.)SO, that’s where you’re going to meet first!
Then, with your hot chocolate in-hand (or after you’ve sat down to work on it), you’re going to walk 10 minutes over to:
I haven’t ever done this particular mini golf (or any for that matter, in the last decade or more), but it looks FUN. Plus it’s only $12 and requires no reservation.
After a breezy round of mini golf on the pier you might want to thaw out and cozy up for a cocktail at:
Titsou Bar at Fouquet’s
Helloooo…?! It’s gorgeous, and so are you. Plus, hotel bars don’t tend to be as packed as the trendier West Village bars nearby. If you didn’t get any other snacks at Rigor Hill or Mini Golf, you can have one now with your cocktail and, hopefully, pleasant conversation.
