We’re all watching White Lotus, right? If you aren’t, that’s ok, it’s just a weird way to let society know that you’re a masochist who enjoys not knowing what the hell anyone is talking about. I won’t list any spoilers here, but I will link the White Lotus employee uniform top as well as Lachlan’s boat day (and night…) ‘fit in case any of you has a tropical vacation coming up…
Here’s what’s up in New York March 24-30:
STEAL OF THE WEEK
Download the Matto app and use code xzhNV when you sign up to get a $5 balance. That might not sound like much, but most of their drinks (including smoothies and iced lattes!) are just $3 when you order on the app, so that’s almost two freebies right there.
TIMELY IDEAS
Tues., March 25 – COCKTAILS – Oh sh*t, Rome’s best cocktail bar is in town! Bartender Davide Diaferia from Drink Kong—one of The World’s Best 50 Bars—will take over Aqua Spirit (the bar at Aqua) from 4-10pm.
Wed., March 26 – LITERATURE – Joan Didion and the American Dream Machine at the NYPL. The New York Times film critic explores Joan Didion’s enduring influence through the lens of American mythmaking. (IRL tix have sadly sold out, but you can still catch it online.)
Thurs., March 27 – FITNESS – At exhale's (new gym/spa at the Virgin Hotel) Ultimate Fitness Debut, enjoy free chair massages, raffles, and more.
Thurs., March 27 – LITERATURE – A Celebration of Jane Austen, a reading and conversation in celebration of the 250th anniversary of her birth, at the 92Y.
Fri., March 28 – EVENT – Music and Maritime: An After-Hours Experience at the South Street Seaport Museum
Sat., March 29 – WALKING – Walking Group :)
Sat., March 29 – TALK – Invaded Forests: A Material Demonstration at the National Academy of Design.
THIS WEEK’S HOT DATE
I’m back with more happy hours. If these lists ever seem geographically random or, on the flip side, concentrated to one area, that’s because it’s just me out in the world stumbling up on them (hey, remember stumbleupon.com? From the days before The Algorithm came to rule the land?!).
Officially, my new system is to snap a pic or screenshot when I see a happy hour, then store the tidbit in an album on my phone. I feel dramatically delayed to this idea, but now we can all benefit from my new habit!
Sogno Toscano
Mon. + Tue. ALL DAY, Wed. + Thurs., 11am-6pm
The authentically Tuscan Sogno Toscano (WV location) is one of the best people-watching corners on any nice day, and during this happy hour, they’ve got 50% off all bottles of wine.
Aqua Spirit
1pm-6pm (not sure if every day or just during the week)
This restaurant is popping up on my newsletter twice because I walk past it often. To be honest, the concept weirds me out a bit (half of the restaurant is Japanese, and half of it is Italian, plus it’s MASSIVE…?) but they do have a central, beautiful bar that seems worth checking out before hitting something cozier for dinner. Happy Hour involves $12 drinks and $20 sushi and sake (as a combo, I’m assuming).
Somewhere Nowhere
Wed.-Sat., 5pm-7pm
We can thank (blame?) a targeted Instagram ad for this one, actually. Something about my internet habits dictates I might be interested in a Martini Power Hour…? 😇 Anyway, Martinis (classic and seasonal) are $12. Not bad considering you can sip them on a rooftop on a Saturday! Plus with names like “Autumn Whisper Espresso Martini” and “Tomato Twilight Martini,” I guess it’s not just a precarious cup o’ Vodka, which is my assessment of a classic martini if I’m being honest (and I always am).
