Hope you did your taxes, my peeps!
I'm a Capricorn moon, so I got my refund months ago. Just saying :)
Easter is this Sunday, which means I’m rooting around my seasonal storage containers to find spring clothes and clean them in time to fly south to Savannah, where color and frill is not only appreciated, it’s somewhat mandatory. I cannot wait to feel my fine lines diminish and my limp hair flourish in the humidity. I crave lusciousness; I’ll take it in the form of air. (And YES, I did link my detergent above; it’s eco-friendly, and the scent is irresistibly expensive-smelling).
Here’s what’s up in New York April 14-20:
STEAL OF THE WEEK
The Uber shuttle is expanding to service JFK! To celebrate, ALL Uber Shuttle trips in New York City to and from LGA and JFK Airports will be just $10 until the end of April. Great timing for me and my upcoming flights (although I do enjoy a little LIRR ride as well).
TIMELY IDEAS
Tues., April 15 – TALKS – Mark Lilla with David Brooks on Ignorance and Bliss at 92Y. I’d let my *life* be moderated by David Brooks, if that were an option, although I have not read Mark Lilla’s book.
Wed., April 16 – CLASSICAL MUSIC – Springtime! An evening of music by Austrian composers to usher the audience in overcoming the last traces of winter’s sadness.
Thurs., April 17 – ART – The Frick is officially open again!! There is nothing – NOTHING – like staring at Renoir, Monet, Degas…inside a mansion. I feel that I have grown up entirely in the time during which the Frick has been closed and I cannot wait to visit again as Current Me. Pay-what-you-wish admission on Wednesdays!
Thurs., April 17 – MATH – Equilibrium, game night for adults at MoMath
Thurs., April 17 – POP CULTURE – With Tanqueray and Ketel One, we can still live a little of the White Lotus Season 3 at Dante, Budakkan and Peachy’s, apparently…
Fri., April 18 – ART – Scott Covert, “Another Dead Supreme” opening reception at Derek Eller Gallery. Colorful arrangements of etchings of gravestones from around the world, “This project is equal parts earnest homage, collection of celebrity ephemera, subversive performance art, and travel diary.”
Sat., April 19 – FREEBIES – Get free tacos and sunscreen at the Sun Bum “Trust The Bum” tour
Sat., April 19 – SWAP – Book swap and meetup at the 67th St Library
Sat., April 19- Sun., April 20 – SHOPPING – “Known To Few”: A curated experience by Lillian Murray
Sun., April 20 – PARADE – The Easter Day Parade
THIS WEEK’S HOT DATE
This weekend will be the perfect first good weekend (yes) to go to:
A glorious public garden and cultural center just a quick train ride from Manhattan. (It’s in Riverdale, which is toward Yonkers, which you might recognize from your tax forms, or – if you’re like me – from the opening number of “Hello, Dolly!”)
You know, on second thought, it could be ideal to go *NEXT* week, as I see they’re having a bunch of programming for Earth Weekend. It appears you cannot lose! Stroll through cherry blossoms and look for interesting birds, or under the pergola, which frames views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. You can even enjoy hot dogs, espresso, and more at the Cafe.
Upon writing this, I’m realizing how supremely romantic this outing will be. You’re so welcome!
